The new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the newspaper El-Massa, Djamel Laâlami, was installed yesterday in Algiers to replace Ahmed Merabet.

The installation ceremony for Mr. Laâlami and the new members of the newspaper's board of directors was presided over by the communication minister and government spokesperson, Ammar Belhimer.

After congratulating Djamel Laâlami , the minister presented his vision of the restructuring of the print media, which aims to place competent sector professionals at the head of each media company, stressing that the choice "is not based on allegiance".

In the structuring of the public enterprises of the print media, he also envisages combining the daily professional management of the company with a new mode of governance within the board of directors, favoring coordination between the daily work of the company and the university, he added.

For his part, Mr. Laâlami said he will work with the team of the newspaper El-Massa in a "fraternal" framework far from any exclusion or marginalization and in respect, to develop the newspaper to make it the voice of Algeria and everything that serves the interests of the country.

Mr. Laâlami, who intends to work in an "objective and transparent professional framework, far from all forms of manipulation, speculation and rumors", considers that success requires the combined efforts of all journalists, being the very basis of the media enterprise.

Mr. Laâlami began his media career in the press in the 1990s. He began his career at the newspaper El Assil and then Er-Rai before joining the newspaper Echourouk as a journalist, then head of the national service before becoming editor-in-chief.
