Mr. Mustapha Hamici was officially installed, this Monday, in his new position as chief executive of the national daily Echaâb, in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Communication, Government Spokesman, Amar Belhimer.

Mr. Hamici replaces Mr. Fnides Benbella who was acting chief executive.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Belhimer stressed the need for Echaâb to "regain its place on the media scene as an information company, which must have a publishing house, a forum, a research center in geopolitics and geo-strategy", stressing the importance of competence to do so.

For his part, Mr Hamici welcomed his appointment as head of the daily Echaâb, stressing the need to provide the necessary support to enable the newspaper to regain its place on the media scene at a time of change in the world in general and Algeria in particular.

These changes require, he said, "profound reforms", especially in relations between the media and society, and find "new formulas to move forward and give a new impetus to the national press to contribute to the development of the sector.
